WORKS IN PROGRESS/COMMISSION OPPORTUNITIES

Here are a few ideas that I have in the pipeline. I’m always looking for partners in the wind ensemble world to help support new projects.  If you’d like to participate in or help organize a commissioning consortium for any of these works (or for any project ideas of your own) I’d love to hear from you.

THOUSAND MILE SUITE

This will be a wind ensemble arrangement of my recent orchestral suite.  You can listen to audio from the orchestral version below, and see the program notes.   I’ve chosen four movements from the suite to adapt for wind ensemble.  The movements are SEVEN MILES BEFORE BREAKFAST, THROUGH THE BOG, IN THE SHADOW OF THE MOUNTAIN, and HORIZON.  The total duration will be about 15 minutes, and the difficulty level should be about grade 4.5.  Each movement will also be playable as a stand-alone piece.

THE TIME TRAVELLER

The Time Traveler is conceived as a big ambitious work, a multi-movement suite for advanced wind ensemble, targeted mainly for the university level, at a grade level somewhere between 5 and 6.  It will be fun, evocative, quirky, colorful, accessible for the audience and challenging for the musicians.  I’m estimating a total length of somewhere around fifteen minutes, or a little bit more.

Short interstitial movements (similar in function to the Promenade movements of Pictures at an Exhibition) will connect with longer and more dramatic movements to take the listener on a journey through time.  The interstitial movements will be playful, fast, and light, with some fun technical challenges.   They will have a retro sci-fi influence, really quirky. The longer movements will be more evocative, almost soundtrack-like, each movement portraying a different era (past, present and future).  A basic outline of the whole idea follows:

Episodes/sequence

I     THE TIME TRAVELER MAIN THEME (Overture)
II    THE HANDS OF TIME I (Interstitial)
III   THE BATTLE FOR YESTERYEAR (The Past)
IV   THE HANDS OF TIME II (Interstitial)
V    THE PRESENT
VI   THE HANDS OF TIME III (Interstitial)
VII  THE FUTURE/FINALE

I’d love to have you aboard for this.  It’s an ambitious work and will require a significant consortium.  Please get in touch if you’re interested in participating.

THE INFORMATION AGE

This will be a wind ensemble arrangement of my orchestral work of the same name.  You can hear the orchestral version below, and read the program notes.  Duration – 4 minutes.  Grade level about 4.5

KEYS TO THE KINGDOM

This is a processional, in the tradition of grand processionals of the past, from Holst to Elgar and beyond.  It will be regal in character, with a strong and compelling melody. It will be five to six minutes in length, and probably around grade level 4.  Lots of opportunity for great noble brass playing.
